The body of a youth, missing for almost a fortnight, was found in an advanced stage of decay in dense undergrowth along the boundary of Golmuri Golf Course in Jamshedpur on Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Amandeep Singh (24), a resident of Nanaknagar in Golmuri, from the remains of his clothes — a pair of blue jeans and shirt with light green checks — which he wore the last time family members saw him alive. His mobile phone was also found a little distance away.
Police, who suspect murder but are yet to nail the motive, have sent the body to MGM Medical College in Dimna for post-mortem.
According to the missing diary lodged by the young man’s father on June 5, Amandeep had left home to attend a friend’s wedding in Adityapur on June 4 evening, but never returned home. Around 7.30am on Monday, foul smell greeted a local resident passing by the bush. He informed the management of the golf course who in turn called police.
“The body has almost been reduced to a skeleton being exposed to the elements for all these days. Kin identified the victim from his clothes. We are hoping the autopsy will throw some light on what we suspect is a murder,” Golmuri OC Nehaluddin Khan said, adding that construction supervisor Amandeep might have been killed on the wedding night.
OC Khan, however, admitted that they were clueless why a “sociable young man with no bad habits, known enemies and police record” would be murdered. “After Amandeep went missing, we had quizzed his friends. All claimed having seen him the last time in Golmuri on June 4. We have seized the cellphone. Call data record may help us make a headway in the case,” said the inspector.
East Singhbhum SSP Amol V. Homkar and city SP Karthik S. visited the spot. Police said they were trying to determine whether the victim was killed in Golmuri or the body dumped in the elite neighbourhood to delay detection.
