Giridih, May 30: Deepesh Raj does not set his eye on Infosys like many other IIT students, but he wants to be another N.R. Narayana Murthy.

Deepesh, originally from Giridih but studied in Rajasthan, has cracked the IIT entrance test, result of which was declared today.

However, Deepesh — who got a rank of 311 — was not alone who scripted success story in this relatively backward district of the state.

So far, students of this district were confined to the toppers’ chart of CBSE, ICSE board’s Class X and Class XII examinations, but this year at least 20 students of Giridih origin cracked the entrance test to join the premier league of technological institutes.

Interestingly, most of them have not undergone any specialised coaching for the preparation of the test although three of them, including Deepesh, studied in Modi Public School in Kota — the town in Rajasthan from where the maximum number of students crack IIT for past several years.

Deepesh wishes to join IIT, Kanpur, or Delhi, and specialise in computer science. “Later, I will do an MBA and I want to become like N.R. Narayana Murthy.”

Rashi Jalan, who had become the country topper in CBSE Plus Two exam (science stream), also found her name in the extended list.

Last year, only 13 students cleared IIT while this year’s figure of 20 has been quite impressive.

Mahmood Alam Siddique, father of Tarique, ranked 3512, and also the person who guided most of the boys for the test, said: “The basic education scenario of Giridih has improved and that has given a boost to the parents and students that they can go for the IIT.”

The others, who cracked the test, include Chandan Kumar (929), Ashish Modi (1019), Ajay Kumar (2255), Amresh Kumar (3436), Kumar Sonal (5746), Ankur (5746), Ajit Kumar (extended), Rashi Jalan (extended).

Some of them also studied in Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bokaro.
