Jamshedpur, Oct. 22 : He has played many characters before, but Tuhin A. Sinha was so enamoured by the anonymous role of an author, that he quit Balaji Telefilms for it.

Tuhin, whose maiden novel That Thing called Love was released in Mumbai recently, admits to having left Balaji Telefilms few years ago, to pursue his passion for writing.

“I was associated with them for a long time. But then I realised that to be a writer and to carve a niche for myself, I needed to be independent,” said the young man, relaxing in his Kharkai Road residence.

Tuhin arrived in the city on Saturday for a week-long Diwali break. Back in the city after six months, Tuhin is now busy looking out for a suitable agent to organise a book reading session. “I am not sure who to contact in Jamshedpur. In metros, the matter is usually taken care of by bookstores or by publishing houses,” he said.

Tuhin’s next move will take him to Chennai and Bangalore, where two reading sessions await him.

A Loyola alumnus, the young man’s stint with Balaji began when he wrote the script of Koi Dil Mein Hain for Sony Television. “I began by acting in two of their serials Kabhi Soutan Kabhi Saheli for Channel Nine and Karam on Sab TV, but later shifted to full-fledged script writing,” said Tuhin.

So why the change? “I needed to grow as a writer. The money was good and that is quite important, but I did not want the anonymity of a scriptwriter. Moreover the work was time consuming,” says Tuhin.

After his return to Mumbai, he has meetings with banners lined up for a celluloid adaptation of the book.
