As police unravelled the mystery behind the death of Mohammed Toufique Ansari — whose body was found near Hariom Tower on Circular Road here on Friday — another body surfaced near the State Bank of India in Dhurwa on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Arvind Kumar Ojha (33), a resident of Vishrampur in Palamau, with the help of an Aadhar card found on the body.

Superintendent of police (city) Aman Kumar said the body had a head injury.

“It could not be ascertained whether it is a case of accident or murder. We have sent the body to RIMS for autopsy and trying to locate his family members with the help of the address on the Aadhaar card,” Kumar added.

Meanwhile, shedding light on what had happened to Toufique, Kumar said the Karbala Chowk resident and the son of shoe trader Mohammed Kamal Ansari had been murdered following a dispute over marijuana.

Producing four of the six accused before the media at Lalpur police station, the city SP said the quartet were picked from Circular Road, Nazir Ali Lane and Lohra Kocha on Saturday evening based on intelligence inputs.

The four were identified as Vishwanath Oraon (23), the security guard of Mahendra Prasad Mahila Mahavidyalaya, and his three friends Devjit Mukherjee (23), Angad Kumar (18) and Sujit Kumar Soni alias Sonu (25).

“On the night of October 25, Toufique, who was addicted to drugs, went to Vishwanath’s house in search of his drug-addict friend and supplier Kasab. When he didn’t find Kasab there, Toufique demanded marijuana from Vishwanath, who declined,” Kumar said.

A dispute arose and Vishwanath pushed Toufique out of his house, leading to a scuffle between the two, the city SP said.

“Bala (who is still at large) and Angad (now in police custody) also got involved in the fight. While Vishwanath and Angad held Toufique’s arms, Bala plunged a knife into him. The trio with the help of Devjit, Sujit and Goldy (who is absconding) carried the body and dumped it in the lane leading to Mahendra Prasad Mahila Mahavidyalaya,” Kumar added.

Vishwanath and Angad were nabbed from Circular Road while Devjit and Sujit were picked from their respective houses at Nazir Ali Lane and Lohra Kocha an hour later.

“During interrogation, they confessed to the murder. Two mobile phones and a cap, which Toufique used to wear, were recovered from the murder spot,” the city SP said.

OC Ramod Kumar Singh said the crime spot was around 500 metres from the place where the body was found.

“We had noticed blood stains on the murder spot though the accused had tried there best to clean them up,” he added.
