The 28-year-old woman employee of a multinational company in Calcutta, who tested positive for Covid-19 after coming back to her native place at Chakulia in East Singhbhum on May 11, was discharged from Tata Main Hospital on Wednesday after the results of three consecutive tests came negative.

“Her reports had come negative in the first test held barely a few days after her admission. However, in keeping with the protocol, she had to undergo the second and third tests and both her reports came negative. On Wednesday, she was released from the hospital after a 15-day stay . We arranged an ambulance for her return to Chakulia and gave her bouquets and a discharge slip issued by the Hospital on her health status,” East Singhbhum civil surgeon Dr Maheshwar Prasad said.

However, the 24-year-old chartered accountant student from Calcutta and a neighbour of the Chakulia girl, who had also tested positive on May 11, is yet to be declared fit.

“The young man is still undergoing treatment as his second test report came positive a few days back. His condition is stable,” district epidemiologist Dr M Asad said.

The CA student and the 28-year-old woman had both come to Chakulia from Calcutta in a private car on the evening of May 8 and were advised home quarantine.

Their samples were taken on May 9 and the report came positive on May 11. They were shifted to Tata Main Hospital’s Covid wing the same day.

Based on contact tracing of both the positive cases, 13 members of their families were also admitted to the same hospital.

Meanwhile, the report of another contact of a Covid1-9 patient in Baridih came negative and was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

Hospital duo infected

Dhanbad: Work at Dhanbad Sadar Hospital was disrupted on Wednesday when its staff protested against risks faced by frontline health workers.

Two lab technicians of the hospital were detected with Covid-19 on Tuesday. Doctors, paramedics and technicians at the hospital wanted Covid-19 tests for each, and the facility to stay on at the hospital to keep their families safe. Work resumed when DC Amit Kumar agreed to both the demands.
