Guwahati: Women's singles world No 1 Tai Tzu Ying cruised to a comfortable straight games victory for two points from her trump match against Michelle Li of home side North Eastern Warriors, to help debutant Ahmedabad Smash Masters begin their Premier Badminton League 3 campaign with a 4-3 points win here on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Taiwanese ace toyed with the world No 21 Canadian opponent for the 15-6, 15-10 win. After conceding the first set without much of a fight, Michelle tried to stage a fightback midway through the second set. Tai, however, proved smarter to eke out a convincing win for the super player of the tie award.

It was, however, world No. 10 HS Prannoy of Ahmedabad Smash Masters who stole the show with a 15-10, 15-14 men's singles victory over Tzu Wei Wang of the home side to put the visitors in an invincible position with four points.

Though the world No. 11 Taiwanese gave a fight in the second set to lead 14-10 at one stage, he committed a couple of unforced errors to concede five points on the trot, helping Prannoy win the match and become the Indian player of the day.

Earlier, Ahmedabad Smash Masters had a winning start to their evening with world No. 49 Sourabh Verma clinching a 15-10, 15-7 win against Pratul Joshi of North Eastern Warriors.

The world No. 43 mixed doubles pair of Shin Baek Cheol and Prajakta Sawant, however, restored parity for North Eastern Warriors winning the second tie of the evening 15-13, 15-13 against Lee Chun Hei Reginald (Hong Kong) and Kamilla Rytter Juhl (Denmark) of Ahmedabad Smash Masters.

Korean men's doubles pair of Kim Gi Jung and Shin Baek Cheol consolidated North Eastern Warriors' position in the league table clinching two points from their trump match with a 15-8, 15-11 win against Ahmedabad Smash Masters' world No 40 Taiwanese duo of Law Cheuk Him and Lee Chun Hei Reginald.

On Monday, Sameer Verma of Mumbai Rockets caused a major upset defeating higher ranked Wing Ki Wong Vincent of Delhi Dashers in straight sets to fashion a 4-1 points victory. The world No. 30 Indian shocked the world No. 15 Hong Kong opponent 15-11, 15-12 in a trump match to rob Delhi Dashers of a point.

Delhi Dashers were deducted a point for Vincent losing the trump match. Korean world No. 6 Sung Ji Hyun bailed them out of the negative point getting the better of US world No. 11 Beiwen Zhang of Mumbai Rockets 12-15, 15-14, 15-9 in the women's singles tie.

The upset fetched Verma the Indian player of the day award.

In another upset of the evening, world No 22 Chinese Tian Houwei of Delhi Dashers shocked Son Wan Ho of Mumbai Rockets 13-15, 15-13, 15-9 in the other men's singles. The world No. 5 Korean, who started on a dominating note, faced stiff challenge to win the first set and committed unforced errors in the remaining two sets to concede the match.

Tian Houwei was eventually adjudged the super player of the day.
