New Delhi/Calcutta: Powerful batting, backed up by some intelligent and sharp bowling, helped the Delhi DareDevils overcome Mumbai Indians' challenge, at the Kotla, on Thursday. It was their first win at home after nine losses.

After the DareDevils' 37-run victory, everyone - from captain JP Duminy to coach Gary Kirsten to Man of the Match Shreyas Iyer - praised the home team bowlers. Imran Tahir, who had figures of 3/22 on the day, got the Purple Cap as the leading wicket-taker with 13 scalps.

Excerpts

JP Duminy: It's quite a small ground... So it's good that I got those six sixes... The wicket was quite good to bat on. So even though we got 190-odd, we needed to bowl well to win this match. All credit to the bowlers for the way they came out with an aggressive mindset.

I guess it does play in your mind that you have lost nine games at your home ground in a row... But it's good to get one over the line. We have got another two here, so hopefully we can make it three out of three.

Tahir's exceptional... He wears his heart on his sleeve. He gives his 100 per cent every time he gets on to the field, no matter whatever cap he wears. It's a real privilege to have him in the side.

We have now won three matches... So that definitely gives us confidence. We always knew that if we get a few wins under our belt, we would get a lot of confidence. We still have a long way to go in this tournament, so hopefully we can continue the good work.

Shreyas Iyer (MoM): I'm not under any pressure playing at the DareDevils because the seniors are always backing the juniors. Gelling with the team also has been good, so it hasn't really been a pressure for me.

I just take some time to get settled... I knock a few balls before I attack the bowler. Opening the batting is obviously helping me a lot in this respect.

I am happy that we broke the jinx of losing our home games. We were obviously disappointed with our losing streak at home, but we remained positive for this match. We were very charged up. So our fielding also was very good.

I was certainly disappointed to some extent on not going on to score a century. But I also felt satisfied that I could help the team to win the match. It was a mixed feeling... If you ask me specifically, I am a happy man at the end of the day. And that people are recognising me for my contributions, is certainly a good feeling.

Tahir is simply a powerhouse. You have seen the way he celebrates. Having a player like him in the team is a great privilege.

Imran Tahir (Purple Cap): We just played good cricket. Nice to have the purple cap though... It's such a great league and there's such tough competition, I'm sure everyone is fighting for it... It's just that I feel honoured and proud every time I wear it. I hope to repeat such performances in the future.

I made a promise to my wife that I would get this cap today... She is my biggest fan. When I spoke to her before the game, she told me 'Look, you have to get the purple cap back'... I am sure she will be the happiest person today. I thank her for her support. We have been working hard and trying our best to play as good cricket as we can. I need to give the cap to my wife, I'm sure it will be a great gift for her.

Gary Kirsten (coach): We put both components of our game together this time. We wanted to ensure that we took care of all the things this year. We had a tough time last year. I learnt a lot from last year. We did not have much depth in our bowling last year.

While recruiting our players this year, we wanted to be sure that we had some quality leg-spinners in the side. And also a little bit of pace... But unfortunately we have lost Mohammed Shami to an injury. We just hope that we can maintain the form that we have created so far.
