Calcutta: Two state records were set on Thursday, the opening day of the Amway 66th State Athletic Championships, at the Sports Authority of India, Eastern Centre, here.
In the under-16 boys' 2000m run, Dibendu Pramanik of North 24 Parganas clocked 06.15.3 secs to set a record. The other mark came in the girls' under-20 200m, which saw Anwesha Roy Prodhan of Jalpaiguri take the gold medal with a time of 24.5 secs. "I have been participating in the state meet for last four years. But this is my first record," said Anwesha.
Meanwhile, Pinki Pramanik made a comeback to state athletics after a gap of eight years. Having overcome controversy regarding her gender, Pinki had taken part recently in the Federation Cup in April.
On Thursday, however, Pinki came up with a rather drab show, finishing fifth in 200m run. She sounded unhappy with her performance. "It was a poor start, but I have another event on Sunday."
A total of 1073 athletes, representing 39 affiliated units, would be seen in action in 148 events. Apart from the districts, clubs like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting, Aryan, City Athletic Club are taking part.
