Calcutta: On paper, Mohun Bagan have a easy job on hand when they take on AIFF XI in an I-League encounter, at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Sunday.

But Bagan, so far in the season, have been on a roller coaster track, full of shocks and surprises.

Hence, in spite of coming off two morale-boosting wins against Salgaocar and ONGC, Bagan will be on their toes and will keep their fingers crossed.

For a twist, there will be no Jose Barreto for inspiration. The Brazilian didn’t practise on Saturday and in all likelihood, will not play on Sunday.

However, coach Subhas Bhowmick chose to keep an aura of mystery around Barreto’s absence. “I will not divulge anything about any individual. Ask me about the team and I will answer,” Bhowmick said.

Given Edeh Chidi’s current form — four goals in two matches — Bagan shouldn’t worry.

But the Desmond Bulpin-coached side has speed on their side.

“They (AIFF XI) are improving and are playing a lot better these days… They possess good speed. I know my defence is a worry and I’m trying to sort things out. We can’t afford mistakes,” Bhowmick said.

Meanwhile, Bagan coach Sujit Chakraborty has been show-caused by the AIFF for manhandling the fourth referee in the last match against ONGC.
