Peeved Younis hits out at PCB
Karachi: Former captain and only Pakistan batsman to score 10,000 Test runs, Younis Khan has made it clear that he will not attend a farewell reception being hosted by Pakistan Cricket Board for him, Mosbah-ul Haq and Shahid Afridi in Lahore next week.
"I don't think this farewell matters now. What is its use after I and Misbah retired in May this year. In other countries, former captains or stalwarts are given farewells within days of their retirement," Younis said.
Akmal's letter
Karachi: Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has written to the PCB that his outburst directed at coach Mickey Arthur was result of mental duress and pressure. "Umar has basically admitted that he should not have gone to the media and made accusations against Arthur and he has asked the PCB to accept his explanation and assured them he will not repeat his mistake again," a source said.
T20I in Lahore
Karachi: Sri Lanka Cricket has agreed to play one T20 International in Lahore on October 29, but only if the World XI tour of Pakistan goes off successfully next week.
Arrival
Chennai: The second batch of Australian players, including captain Steve Smith, arrived here on Saturday night for the five-match ODI series against India beginning on September 17. Smith, vice-captain David Warner and five other players of the squad, reached here from Dhaka via Mumbai.

Crans Montana: Shiv Kapur was the only Indian surviving in the Omega European Masters, even as the other four, including SSP Chowrasia, exited early as they missed the halfway cut. Kapur shot 69 and 67 in his first two rounds. Midway through the third round he was even par.

New president
Calcutta: Amiruddin Bobby is the new president of Mohammedan Sporting. This was decided at the executive committee meeting of the club held on Saturday. Amiruddin was the treasurer from 2001 and succeeds Sultan Ahmed, who passed away earlier this week. Iqbal Ahmed resigned as the football secretary citing health issues. Sharique Ahmed, Sultan's younger son, is the new football secretary.
EB's demand
Calcutta: East Bengal has sent a letter to the All Indian Football Federation stating that they would like to play their I-League matches at home. "Work has started for installing the floodlights, the elevator will be in place very soon and bucket seats at the Aryan side of the ground will also be there," East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar said. For the record, AFC delegates will be visiting East Bengal and Mohun Bagan in mid-October.
