Rahul Dravid is likely to reapply for the position of head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, for which the BCCI advertised on its website on Tuesday.

The former India captain’s two-year term has come to an end, and according to its constitution, the BCCI had to put up a notification.

The move, however, led to speculation on Dravid’s potential elevation to the Team India head coach’s chair after a successful tour of Sri Lanka recently. The second string side won the ODI series, but lost the T20I one. They were without their top eight players in the last two T20Is because of Covid-19 cases in the camp.

Current head coach Ravi Shastri and his team of Bharat Arun, R. Sridhar and Vikram Rathour end their term with the T20 World Cup in October-November.

Dravid’s term began in July 2019. His role came in for a lot of praise after he worked with the Under-19 and ‘A’ sides to nurture the supply chain to the senior India team.

The head of cricket at the NCA is responsible for running “all cricket coaching” programmes and for “preparation, development and performance” of all cricketers training there.
