Calcutta, Dec. 29:
The new millennium has prompted the Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) stewards to shed their age old ideas and look forward to. In order to encourage and accommodate a trendy, young and the newgeneration race-crowd, the august body has decided to be flexible with the dress-code in the members' enclosure on the New Year's Day and the Derby Day races as well. A strict dress-code has been the order of the Members' enclosure for long.
'Dress code will be relaxed on the two premium race-meetings,' said Vineet Verma, CEO and Secretary RCTC. 'Denim outfits and snickers are the present-day demands. Yes, chappals, pajamas, T-shirts, bermudas and half-pants are out of question. We have to maintain some sanctity in the members' enclosure,' added Verma.
Live coverage: There may be another good piece of new coming for the city race-lovers. From early January 2001, RCTC may tie-up with the satellite-channel - ATN World - for the live coverage of the local racing. To start with the channel may beam live two or three race events every race-day. The channel may also make a deferred telecast After the last race, showing the entire day's programme in an hour's capsule.
