Athlete dies in mishap
Lucknow: A national-level fencing champion, 27-year-old Hoshiyar Singh, died after falling off a moving train in UP’s Hathras district, with his family alleging that he was pushed off by GRP personnel, even as the police said that preliminary probe pointed towards “accidental” death.
Ibe scores for Reds
London: Jordon Ibe scored a superb equaliser as Liverpool's pre-season tour ended in frustration after they were held to a dull 1-1 draw by a Malaysia XI on Friday. Ibe's strike cancelled out Patrick Wleh's goal for the hosts.

Gurbaj trouble
New Delhi: Senior India player Gurbaj Singh is in serious trouble as the Special Committee of Hockey India (HI) has recommended disciplinary action against him for "misbehaviour and creating disharmony within the team". Reports of coaches and manager have also accused Gurbaj of creating rifts within the team.

New Delhi: The Indian boys finished sixth after losing to Chinese Taipei in the 21st Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships, being held in Kuala Lumpur, on Friday. China, as expected, won the gold. In the last edition of the meet, the Indian boys had finished ninth.
3-year contract
Calcutta: Young batsman Sarfaraz Khan, who impressed while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL VIII, has signed a three-year deal with the Professional Management Group. The deal will see PMG, headed by Sunil Gavaskar, manage all of the 17-year-old's commercial dealings.
CAB awards
Calcutta: The CAB annual awards ceremony, on Saturday, may not witness any of the players from the Bengal seniors squad. While one group, led by Wriddhiman Saha, is busy playing the KSCA meet, another will be leaving for Chennai on Saturday for a camp. Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Manoj Tiwary, who will be in the city on Saturday, haven't decided whether they will attend the function. Player of the Year, Abhimanyu Easwaran will also miss the event.
Pradipta shines
Calcutta: Pradipta Pramanik once again produced a fine bowling performance, taking five wickets for 78 runs as Haryana were all out for 283 in their second innings, against Bengal, at the KSCA meet, in Alur.
