New Delhi: Former Nigerian World Cupper Emeka Ezeugo is likely to be the new Churchill Brothers coach for the next season.

The tall and well-built Nigerian is no stranger to soccer fans in Calcutta as he played for East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting in the late eighties.

A graduate of Punjab University in Chandigarh, Emeka made his name both as a midfielder and striker in Calcutta before moving to Bangladesh, Europe and then to the US.

Emeka made big news at the 1994 World Cup in the United States when Nigeria famously qualified for the quarter finals. He was also a regular starter for Nigeria at the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.

The Nigerian holds a USSF ‘B’ coaching license and a KNVB Netherlands international license. Emeka is currently the coach at New York City College of Technology (United States).

Emeka’s brother — Valentine, a former footballer to have plied his trade in India, especially Goa — recommended the former World Cupper to the Goan club’s patron, Churchill Alemao.

Emeka will be in India soon to finalise the deal with Churchill Brothers.
