Calcutta, Oct. 19 :    Calcutta, Oct. 19:  The body of former national soccer captain Pem Dorji, who died late yesterday at a city nursing home, was taken to Gangtok, his hometown, this afternoon for cremation. Dorji, who represented India in many international matches and was a one-time favourite of coach Ciric Milovan, had been battling cancer for several months. Another former international and Dorji's senior, Shyam Thapa, paid homage to him at the nursing home this morning. Dorji's body was taken to the FCI tent on the Maidan where several current players and some of his contemporaries paid their respects. Floral tributes were sent from Mohun Bagan, a club he served for long, and also from East Bengal. Dorji had also played for Mohammedan Sporting. Later, the body was taken to the morgue for embalming to last the long road journey to Gangtok, which it is expected to reach tomorrow morning. The city police have provided an escort vehicle. Varsity kabaddi Utkal, Pandit Ravishankar and Kashi Vidyapith won their knockout round matches of the all-India inter-university Kabaddi meet in Kalyani today. They will now feature in the round-robin league.
