lDefender Dhanachandra Singh, who played for United SC last season, has signed for Mohun Bagan. Midfielder Lalkamal Bhowmick, who too had donned United SC colours, has already been roped in by Bagan. Meanwhile, on the East Bengal front, efforts are still on to finalise their coach for the upcoming season. Top club officials have gone to Margaon to hold discussions with Armando Colaco. The officials are also supposed to have talks with a few players, like Ogba Kalu and Peter Carvalho.
Gurpreet Singh scored a brace to help Punjab Sports Club earn a 2-2 draw against CC&FC in a Super Four match of the BHA League, at the Mohun Bagan ground, on Sunday. Gagandeep Singh and Ajit Pandit were the scorers for CC&FC, who were leading 2-0 before Punjab SC staged a comeback.
The other match of the day, between ERSA and Calcutta Customs Club, at the same venue, ended goalless.
Unseeded Koyena Sircar entered the semi-finals of the girls’ singles (under-12) at the DKS AITA Championship Series 2014, defeating fourth seed Shreya Chakraborty 4-0, 5-3. Shatavisa Ghosh, Ananya Yadav and Ameek Kiran Batth are the other semi-finalists.
Shatavisa overcame the challenge of Karnataka’s Sagarika Ramesh Sonni 5-3, 4-0. Ananya had it easy versus Dhriti Bhattacharya, winning 4-0, 4-2. Batth, on the other hand, beat local girl Aneesha Mukherjee 5-3, 4-2. In the boys’ singles (under-12), Aditya Vardhan Roy Chowdhury, Kritanta Sarma, Kanav Goel, Aadit Roy Chowdhury, Utsav Rakshit, Amrutjay Mohanty, Suvrat Mall and Amaan Wasim reached quarter finals.
La Martiniere for Girls defeated Sushila Birla School 27-25 to be crowned champions in the senior group of the Inter-School Basketball Championship, held at Loreto House premises. Modern High School and Loreto House were winners in the junior
group and mini group, respectively.
In the junior group, Modern High School didn’t face much trouble getting past the challenge of La Martiniere for Girls as they won 45-22. In the mini group, Loreto House outclassed Modern High 25-16.
