David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen overpowered India on Thursday and Ishan Kishan believes that the home team must find ways to stop the in-form Proteas players, especially the left-handed Miller, in order to find success in the ongoing T20I series.

Miller and Rassie played unbeaten knocks of 64 and 75 respectively to give the visitors a 1-0 lead even though India had done quite well with the bat, putting up a 200-plus total on the board.

“I think right now Miller is in great form. We will plan something for these two because if Miller gets going, it is very hard to stop him. At the same time, it makes it easier for the other batsman also at the other end,” Ishan, who was his team’s top scorer with a 48-ball 76, said at the post-match media conference.

Ishan’s comment found an echo in Rassie’s words. “Avesh Khan put me under a lot of pressure and didn’t miss his mark at all. But Miller pulled me through with his knock,” Van der Dussen said.

Miller has been in great touch this season. He had a tremendous IPL, where he finished as the third-highest run-getter for champions Gujarat Titans.

Reality bites

Ishan, who opened the Indian innings on Thursday, knows his spot in the XI may not be secure when first-choice openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are available. But he is not losing sleep over it.

“They (Rohit and Rahul) are world-class players and I won’t ask for my spot when they are there in the team. They have scored so many runs for our country, I cannot ask them to drop themselves and make me play in the first place,” Ishan said.

“My job here is to give my best. Whenever I get my opportunity, I have to prove myself,” he added.
