CVC Capital Partners, one of the two new teams which successfully bid for the Ahmedabad franchise in the IPL, will get a formal clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Tuesday.

“CVC Capital Partners have been given the all-clear and we will issue the Letter of Intent after tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) governing council meeting,” IPL chairman Brijesh Patel told The Telegraph on Monday.

International investment firm Irelia Company Pte Ltd, an arm of CVC Capital Partners, successfully bid for the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 5,625 crore in October. However, it surfaced soon after that CVC Capital Partners had links with betting companies in Europe.

The BCCI formed a three-member neutral committee, led by former Supreme Court Justice KS Radhakrishnan, to look into the links, which cleared them of any misdeed.

That the Ahmedabad franchise had been cleared to participate in the IPL was reported by The Telegraph on December 27, 2021. Tuesday’s governing council meeting will also discuss the time frame that will be given to the two franchises to sign their three players from the unretained pool. The player auction is scheduled for February 12-13 in Bangalore.

It is learnt that the Ahmedabad franchise is likely to hand over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya, subject to his attaining fitness. The Ahmedabad franchise’s support staff has also been finalised with Ashish Nehra as its head coach along with Vikram Solanki as director of cricket and Gary Kirsten as team mentor.
