Ex-India skipper and head coach Stephen Fleming need to be a little more careful in selecting their Impact Player

After four years, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to receive a rapturous welcome at the venue where he has committed very few errors.

Having lost the tournament opener to defending champions Gujarat Titans last Friday, captain Dhoni and his Super Kings will certainly be looking to get a bit of home comfort at the MA Chidambaram Stadium when they clash with the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.

For sure, the four-time champions would be looking to make maximum use of home advantage in search of their first win of IPL 2023.

Personally, Dhoni didn’t have much scope to contribute with the bat in the Super Kings’ previous game as he could face only seven balls, though he hit a six and a four to remain unbeaten on 14. Captaincy-wise, he should have kept a better and more experienced bowler for that final over instead of pacer Tushar Deshpande, who wasn’t successful as an Impact Player.

In other words, Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming need to be a little more careful in selecting the ImpactPlayer, especially against a Lucknow side that’s brimming with confidence after an emphatic 50-run win over Delhi Capitals.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s presence upfront certainly gives hope to the Super Kings. Though it remains to be seen if Ruturaj gets to rule the Powerplay against Mark Wood, who rattled the Capitals on Saturday night with genuine pace and movement.

Besides, the Super Kings would also hope their other opener, Devon Conway, lives up to expectations.

The same applies to England superstar Ben Stokes, while the likes of Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube need to convert their starts.

Also, the Super Kings need to make sure they get rid of Lucknow opener Kyle Mayers, a big hitter, as early as possible.

But it’s Dhoni who will draw much of the spotlight. It’s his den after all.
