Lancs rope in Flintoff
London: Andrew Flintoff has come out of retirement to join Lancashire’s squad for this season’s English domestic Twenty20 competition, the county announced on Sunday. Flintoff has been training with his native Lancashire, the only county side he’s ever represented, in recent months and is looking forward to making a comeback he once thought was beyond him.
Fielding coach
Karachi: The PCB on Friday appointed former Bangladesh trainer Grant Luden as trainer and fielding coach of its national team. The Pakistan management under PCB chairman Najam Sethi has undergone a major revamp after the side failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the World T20 in Bangladesh this year.
The South African-born Luden’s appointment comes after the hiring of head coach Waqar Younis, spin consultant Mushtaq Ahmed and batting coach Grant Flower.
PCB promise
Karachi: The PCB has promised financial incentives and best possible facilities for its players ahead of the World Cup in 2015. PCB chairman, Najam Sethi met with the players during the national summer training camp in Lahore on Friday and described them as national assets.
“Pakistani cricketers are national assets which must be looked after, groomed and nurtured,” Sethi said. Flanked by former greats like Zaheer Abbas, Moin Khan, Mohammed Akram and Sarfraz Nawaz who are working with the players in the month-long camp, Sethi said that the nation expected the players to perform to their best.
Waiting game
New Delhi: The BCCI has kept the Afghanistan Cricket Board and Cricket Association of Nepal waiting for at least six months since receiving requests from both teams to use the training facilities and technical expertise in India.
While the BCCI has not tabled the proposals in any of its meetings, the two neighbours - whose teams have caught the imagination of the cricket world in the recent past - remain positive about a favourable reply from the BCCI. Both the ACB and CAN have been requesting the BCCI to help raise the profile of cricket in their respective countries, but despite their assurance of helping associate nations, the BCCI is yet to pay any heed to the requests.
MCC lecture
n London: Ian Botham will deliver the 14th MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s on September 3. Botham will become the fourth Englishman to give the address after Geoffrey Boycott in 2005, Christopher Martin-Jenkins in 2007 and Tony Greig in 2012.
Satya named
New Delhi: Former Andhra Ranji Trophy player and member of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) Satya Prasad Yachendra was on Friday appointed as the manager of the Indian team touring Bangladesh in mid-June.
