India slip to No. 3

Calcutta: Virat Kohli continues to top the batting chart in the latest ICC one-day rankings announced on Wednesday, while Team India dropped a rung to No.3.

India lost their second position to Sri Lanka while Australia maintained their place at the top. Sri Lanka’s series win over England helped them gain one ratings point to move up to 112, which was the same as that of India. However, when ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point, Angelo Mathews’s side edged out India.

New Delhi: Rahul Dravid believes that Virender Sehwag is still a joy to watch.

Bereaved

Mumbai: Sanjay Manjrekar on Wednesday lost his mother Rekha, who passed away in a local hospital where she had been admitted a fortnight ago. Rekha, (81), was admitted for treatment of age-related ailments.

BCCI payments

New Delhi: In their bid to reward first-class cricketers of bygone era, the BCCI will make another round of one time ex-gratia payment to the tune of Rs 20 lakh per head for all those (50-74 matches) who have retired prior to 2003 .The decision was taken at a meeting of BCCI’s Finance Committee, here, on Wednesday.

CA move

Brisbane: With an eye to improve their dismal record in the subcontinent, Cricket Australia is mulling the idea of importing soil from India and install Asian-style practice pitches at the National Cricket Centre, here. Since their tour to Bangladesh in 2006, Australia have won just one of the 13 Tests they played in Asia.
