New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday permitted the Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha committee, appointed to conduct further probe into the IPL match-fixing/ betting row and suggest remedial measures, to appoint CBI’s superintendent of police (anti-corruption) Vivek Priyadarshi to head the investigation team in place of B B Misra another IPS officer who was superannuated on March 31.

The investigation team will conduct further probe into the alleged role of IPL chief operating officer Sundar Raman in terms of the apex court’s earlier order of January 22, 2015 by which it had struck down the amendment to Rule 6.2.4 of the BCCI which had permitted officials/ administrators to own commercial interests like IPL teams and restrained Narayanswami Srinivasan from contesting the Board elections.

The apex court said Priyadarshi would be free to pick any team of officers, and like his predecessor would enjoy the power of search, seizure and summoning of witnesses, “except the power of arrest.”
