Calcutta: Ajay Shirke’s resignation as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer, on May 31, was seen by many as the start of the end of Narayanswamy Srinivasan’s innings as president.
Sanjay Jagdale followed in Shirke’s footsteps, quitting as the BCCI secretary, but Srinivasan survived. In fact, he’s still the president, but not supposed to call the shots officially.
So, is the Pune-based Shirke feeling let down by colleagues in the BCCI?
Shirke responded via an SMS to The Telegraph: “It doesn’t matter if the cause was taken up or not. For me, it was always a case of living with myself, nothing else...”
Did he have a comment on the developments over the past week?
“No... But I wish the BCCI well,” Shirke, an industrialist, replied.
Jagdale (based in Indore), for his part, declined to say anything. “Please, I’m no longer part of the BCCI. So, keep me out... Please,” he told this Reporter.
Both Shirke and Jagdale are men of integrity.
Jagdale’s successor Sanjay Patel is seen as a Srinivasan loyalist. The new treasurer, Ravi Savant, is understood to have quickly become an Establishment man.
