Calcutta, June 30:
Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) has decided to re-introduce subsidies which were withdrawn years ago, informed Gen. (Rtd.) Shankar Roychowdhury, chairman and senior steward RCTC, while briefing the media-persons today on prospects of the monsoon racing season beginning from Thursday.
He said that the incentive schemes are to attract additional bloodstock to the centre. The scheme includes reimbursement of transportation costs upto a maximum of Rs 10,000 per horse to trainers who bring horses from other centres before July 31, 2001. A subsidy of Rs 1,000 per horse will be given to runners in any handicap/terms race other than a 'sweepstake' race, subject to the race having six or more actual runners. A horse-strength of more than 250 horses will make the monsoon fields.
