Mohun Bagan midfielder Joseba Beitia believes his team has the quality needed to win the I-League.
“We have a very strong squad and if everything goes accordingly, we have a fair chance to win the title,” Beitia told The Telegraph.
Bagan will be leaving for Aizawl on Thursday for the opening match of the league against Aizawl FC on Saturday. According to Beitia, a good start to the league is going to be very important for Bagan. “We would obviously like to get full points from the first match. A good start is going to be very important, especially as it’s a long league.
“But we are not taking any opponent lightly… This is going to be a very tough league,” the Spaniard said.
“We need to be more effective before the goal. We have to utilise the opportunities we get,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bagan coach Kibu Vicuna said he may start with four foreigners in the opening game. “I have thought about it. We played the last two training games with four foreigners and the team did well. So, it is a possibility,” said Vicuna after Wednesday’s practice session.
