Ashok wins gold

Bangalore: Maharashtra’s Ashok Pandit pushed star attraction Jaspal Rana to the second spot and won the gold in the centre fire pistol event in the 46th national shooting championship on Thursday which saw two national records being shot down.

Pandit logged 581 points, one more than Rana, who had to be content with silver, while Army’s C.K. Chaudhary took the bronze (574).

Satguru Das of Navy created a national record in the 50m rifle prone event, erasing the mark of Army’s A.P. Subbaiah of 697.10 achieved in Auckland in 1999.

Incidentally, Subbaiah picked up the silver with a tally of 693.8 and BSF’s Ram Kumar finished third (691.9).

In the centre fire pistol event in the junior national championship, Ronak Pandit improved the national record of 558 that stood in his name with an effort of 571, while Army’s Manoj Kumar secured the silver (564) and his compatriot Kushal Kumar the bronze (543).
