There are several websites that offer free courses on programming. I suggest you start with Codecademy (www.codecademy.com). Codecademy is great fun and focuses on beginners. The courses are structured in such a way that they never overawe you. In fact, it feels more like playing a game. Turn off side key
q+a I keep getting a 'screen overlay detected' message on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running on Android 6.0.1. How can I stop this from happening?
R.K. Pradhan
A recent update to Android seems to have led to this problem in some Samsung phones. You probably have the Side Key Panel turned on. This function allows you to use your device more easily with one hand by having the hard key and other selected functions appear as buttons at the side of the screen. You have to turn this function off. Go to Settings-Display and Wallpaper-One-handed operation. Uncheck Side Key operation.
Duplicate cleaner
q+a Is there any software that can remove duplicate files, photos and videos from my desktop?
Anupama Rai
You can get rid of unwanted duplicates using Duplicate Cleaner. The utility will find duplicate files for you and send them to the recycle bin with your permission. You could look just for images files, videos and even audio files to clear up space. You can use Duplicate Cleaner to find duplicates by file name, file size, content, creation date, custom filters and more. That way, you can look for old music that you may not want anymore but is taking up space. Get it from www.duplicatecleaner.com.
Beep story
q+a Every time I start my Dell Inspiron N5050, it start beeping wildly. It takes quite a while before Windows starts. I use Windows 7 Home Basic. The machine also hangs a lot. How can I solve this problem?
Zeba Zarrin
With its beep, your computer is trying to tell you that everything is not okay with it. You need to understand the beep codes because each beep signifies something. A single long beep signifies that that there could be a BIOS corruption or read-only memory (ROM) errors. Two beeps would mean that the RAM or the memory card might have become loose in its slot. Three beeps mean your machine is in real trouble and there could be a system board failure. Four beeps mean a memory failure. Five beeps mean that the CMOS battery needs to be replaced immediately because your computer's clock has stopped or is running very slow. Six, seven and eight beeps signify video BIOS failure, processor failure and LCD failure respectively. Armed with this knowledge take your machine to a qualified engineer.
