Wall collapse

Puri: Two days after a girl student was killed and 24 others suffered injuries in a wall collapse at Satyabadi in the district, the district administration on Saturday directed the officials to register criminal cases against the headmaster of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir and the owner of the house adjacent to the school where the mishap took place. Puri collector issued a directive in this regard.

Kids killed

Angul: A woman threw her three sons into a well before jumping into it herself at Gurujanga village in Kishorenagar police station area on Saturday. The three kids, aged between one and five died. But their mother, Sovagini Behera (35), was rescued by villagers and fire brigade personnel. She is on the run and police are looking for her. Though the exact reason behind the incident is not clear, police believe domestic quarrel might be the cause.

Daana Majhi

Bhubaneswar: A renowned school under a private university in Bhubaneswar will provide free education to three daughters of Daana Majhi, the Kalahandi tribal who was recently in the news for carrying his wife’s body on his shoulders for 10 km after being refused a mortuary van. The school reportedly volunteered to take the responsibility after several tribal organisations of Kalahandi district and an MLA made requests in this regard.

Flyover opens

Puri: The Samjajpur railway over-bridge which had been closed for repairs since June 12, reopened on Saturday.
