Balasore, March 5: A 19-year-old girl lodged a complaint of rape with Udala police yesterday.
The girl, a resident of Udala town’s ward No. 4, claimed in her complaint that two persons took her from home and dumped her at an unknown place where she was raped by several people in confinement for about two weeks.
The police swung into action following her complaint last evening. The police registered a case against two persons — Harekrushna Behera, 32, a resident of Udala and Susanta Jena, 28, a resident of Tahalia in Nilgiri block of Balasore.
The victim wrote in her complaint that Behera came to her house on February 18 while her mother had gone to a fair in the vicinity. He had allegedly told her that he had come with a proposal to marry her. Since her mother was not at the home, he asked her to accompany him to the fair to meet her mother.
When she went with Behera, she found Jena was waiting on road near a petrol pump. Instead of taking her to the fair, they forcibly took her to Nilgiri and sexually assaulted her for two days.
Later, they took her to a lodge in Karanjia, where several persons raped her.
After keeping her in Karanjia for about 10 days, they allegedly brought her back to Sajanagarh in Nilgiri and raped her again.
However, she managed to escape from their clutches on Monday.
Sub-divisional police officer K.C. Nayak said: “A case has been registered under sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage) and 376 (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code against the duo. We are searching for others who were involved in the gang rape.”
The victim has been medically examined and a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits, he said.
