
Rourkela: Police cracked the Indian Overseas Bank robbery case on Wednesday after two persons were arrested from Gaya in Bihar. The arrested persons were involved in a bank robbery in Angul. Some more members of the gang are likely to be held.
Inspector in charge of Plant Site Police station Upendra Pradhan said: "Rajesh Das alias Akash alias Pankaj and Omprakas Das, both 25-year-old have been arrested from Gaya district of Bihar. The police have recovered a 12 bore pistol, 20 live cartridges, one 8mm pistol and 10 live cartridges from them. Our team had gone to Gaya for investigation. The accused persons will be brought in remand from the Angul police."
A gang of eight criminals had robbed the Indian Overseas Bank at Madhusudan Marg in Patel Building on June 9. The gang had entered the bank premises as soon as it opened and the employees arrived. On the gunpoint, they threatened the bank staff took the keys of the cash room. They opened the cash room and decamped with Rs 44 lakhs in two bags.
Before decamping, they had rounded up the staff and customers in the record room. The gang had taken away the hard disk of the CCTV footage with them.
The cops got vital clues from the CCTV footage of a shop in the same building. The entire operation had lasted a little more 25minutes. The bank had no security guard when the incident took place.
