This is a huge step. I cannot wait to see Bhubaneswar transforming in such a way. It will be a dream come true to see a 30-storey building in the heart of the city. The government should work on it well and make sure to finish it on time

City Wi-Fi
Aim: Seamless Internet service to people in Bhubaneswar Town Centre District, which spreads from Bapuji Nagar to Satya Nagar over 987 acres of land. Though it's just five per cent of the city's total area, it is of strategic importance as footfall here is significant because a number of commercial establishments and railway station are located here. Service will be extended to other parts of city in subsequent phases. Objective is to make Bhubaneswar a digital city
Benefits: Wi-Fi project will allow people access to array of online services without spending data from their own pockets. Wi-Fi will be free
Timeline: One year for completion after selection of executor
Civic body says:
The city Wi-Fi project is one of the most ambitious under the Smart City Mission. As we are going to introduce a number of e-services, there is a need to provide seamless Internet access to the people. The Wi-Fi project will bridge the gap between the people and array of online services. The service will be extended to other parts of the city in subsequent phases

The introduction of Wi-Fi services in such a big area is very welcome step. When they are introducing online services, it is their duty to give us access to these services. Everyone cannot spend their data each time they want to access a service

Note: Among public enterprises, Bhubaneswar railway station is already Wi-Fi enabled and service provider is Google Inc. Private service providers already cover almost entire city with Wi-Fi services
Integrated Sewerage Management System
Aim: To provide decentralised and networked underground sewerage systems apart from augmentation of existing network and treatment pants. Present system covers part of city area, but has poor collection and transportation system. Sewage is discharged into 10 open drains. This leads to overflow, stagnation of sewage in roadside ditches, pits, unhygienic conditions, proliferation of flies, mosquitoes and weeds. Decentralised system is meant to cover all 67 wards of city, although Phase I of the project will ensure coverage of only districts 4 and 5 of the six sewerage districts of Bhubaneswar. Nearly 412km of underground sewerage pipelines are already being laid for other four districts. Underground sewerage, which will be connected under one network, will discharge sewage safely into Kuakhai and Daya rivers
Benefits:
♦ System will enhance health and safety standards of people
♦ Ensure environmental sustainability
♦ Coverage of public toilets expected to increase to 80 per cent of city area
♦ Coverage of sewerage network and collection efficiency of network will be 100 per cent
♦ Adequacy and quality of sewerage treatment will be 100 per cent
♦ Project will ensure proper treatment of sewage generated from the city area with provision of modern treatment technology such as Standard Activates Sludge Process
♦ Project will provide effective sewerage services to urban population and will reduce non-point sources of pollution
♦ Project will ensure rehabilitation of existing sewerage systems and treatment plants and recycling of water and wastewater
Timeline: For this project, detailed report to be prepared in 2017, executor to be selected in same year. Target completion is by 2021

The city does have a good drainage system, but it lags behind in providing a better sewerage system. The city is hounded by a number of health hazards such as jaundice and diarrhoea. I hope the upcoming project will include construction of public toilets and ensure collection of sewage in a safe manner before its disposal into the river
Ashok Mahana, resident of Satya Nagar
