Bhubaneswar: Eight sex workers from Thailand, who were rescued from a spa at Bapuji Nagar on May 19, were deported from on Thursday through the airport here.

The Thai nationals boarded an Air India flight to Bangkok from Bhubaneswar on Thursday afternoon.

Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania said that all the women were served a deportation notice on Wednesday evening and were given 48 hours to leave the country. "All of them were staying at a short-stay home and we verified their passports and visas. During verification, we found that they were working in the spa with a tourist visa which is violation to the visa norms. We have also informed the matter to the concerned department in the Union ministry of external affairs," said Khurania.
