Rourkela, Nov. 21: The Biju Pattnaik University of Technology (BPUT) is planning to set up a state-of-the-art technology from the next semester to streamline the examination process.
Vice-chancellor Jitendriya Satpathy announced the plan during the event of the 13th foundation day of the university here today. The examination answer sheets would be converted to the PDF format and sent to the respective examination centres for the faculties to evaluate.
“This system is foolproof, and there will hardly be any chance of error. This has already been put to use at many places in south India and also in many universities. If an examiner misses one answer sheet, he will not be able to evaluate the next one and e-submit the evaluated papers,” said Satpathy.
The decision was taken at the last general body meeting of the BPUT management team.
Satpathy said this would save a lot of money in logistics, as there was no need to move the answer sheets from place to place any more. The result and certification would be published online.
“The fee-collection system is also going to be online to avoid due payments. The examiners would also have to submit their bills online and the payments would reach their accounts safely without any delay,” said Satpathy.
Regarding future plans of the university, he said: “At present, we are offering 10 postgraduate courses, and in future, we are going to increase it to different subjects than technology only.”
Sunil Kumar Sadangi, director of the NIT, Rourkela, was the chief guest at the event. He stressed on the future shape of education.
“The British started higher education in India for their own purpose that was to produce administrators to run the government. Development was there but only for some specific purposes which suited their objectives.”
After Independence, education took a leap from being a mere instrument that will satisfy the need of administering development, Sadangi said.
He said: “Now, we have to concentrate on creating an atmosphere where there will be an all-round development, and for this, we need wealth creation. Technology is changing in that direction, and we cannot be a mute spectator to the massiveness of the change around.”
