You must have admired Hrithik’s spunky hairdo and Preity’s short haircut in the film Lakshya. The credit for such unique hairstyles goes to none other than stylist Kingsley Gomes who was also behind the fashionable look of the stars in Dil Chahta Hai. The ace hair stylist has worked for many television commercials as well as the styled for Paris fashion week and other international shows. Gomes was in the city on Friday as L’Oreal’s guest educator at the Mayfair Spa. The Telegraph had a tête-à-tête with the master hair stylist. Here’s an excerpt.
You styled for Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya. But of late you have become busy with fashion weeks.
Well, I worked for 10 years with Be Blunt in Mumbai and moved to Australia last year. A couple of months later I went to the UK and studied about new styles. I have been travelling across the globe since then and now throughout India. So its not just fashion weeks that are keeping me busy as I’m training new hair stylists at many salons in the country.
Who are celebrities you have styled?
Model Carol Gracias, VJ Anushka Manchanda, Archana Puran Singh are some of the celebrities who have been my clients.
Among the actors you have worked with in Bollywood who is your favourite?
I feel Hrithik’s hairstyle is very chic. In fact almost all actors have started changing their look every now and then. Earlier they carried the same look for ten films.
Now, they go for different hairdos that give them a fresh look and even the filmmakers are focusing on the haircuts and looks.
Why do you think this consciousness towards hairstyles entered Bollywood films? Is it the Dil Chahta Hai effect?
(Laughs) Yes, It is! Dil Chahta Hai brought a revolution in hair styling. Farhan Akhtar should be complimented for this. Even in the movie Lakshya, he made sure the look was different. These films made an impact on the industry.
