Balasore, Aug. 17: Medical teams have rushed to Kadaria hamlet in Gopinathpur village of Raghunathpur gram panchayat of this district following report of food poisoning.
Around 250 people, including women and children, were reportedly affected. About 100 of the affected are being treated at two government hospitals — Basta Community Health Centre and Paunsakuli Primary Health Centre.
“There are about 100 people, including women and children, are admitted to the two health centres. They are recovering,” said programme officer of the Basta block health Biswajit Das.
“The patients mainly complained of loose motion apart from vomiting,” he said.
Chief district medical officer Anup Kumar Ghosh and epidemiologist Brajamohan Patra rushed to the affected village, while other medical officers of the Basta block are camping there.
“They were offered fruits, beverage and other stuffs. Of these items, any one could have been contaminated,” said local sarpanch Ramshankar Sahu.
“The symptoms of food poisoning had surfaced among some people since last evening. We had sent some of them to hospital and the number increased today morning,” he said.
Epidemiologist Brajamohan Patra said: “I could learn that the people had taken fruits, beverage and boiled grams. However, the actual reason behind the food poisoning has not yet been ascertained.”
Balasore chief district medical officer Anup Kumar Ghosh said the affected people were given necessary medicine and ORS packets. “No one among them is critical and they are recovering,” he said.
