Protest over death halts traffic

Tension prevailed at Chadrasekharpur on Friday evening as police resorted to baton charge during a road blockade over the suspicious death of a youth. The family members of the deceased blocked the road connecting Jayadev Vihar and Nandankanan for around one hour by placing the body on the road.

Tension prevailed at Chadrasekharpur on Friday evening as police resorted to baton charge during a road blockade over the suspicious death of a youth. The family members of the deceased blocked the road connecting Jayadev Vihar and Nandankanan for around one hour by placing the body on the road. While the family members of the deceased alleged that the youth was beaten to death, the police initially suspected that he had died in a road accident. The body of Dhaneswar Das, 28, was found on a road in the area early on Friday morning. The body bore several injury marks. Later, the family members of the deceased staged a road blockade bringing traffic to a standstill. The police rushed to spot and took to baton charge to lift the blockade when stones were hurled at them."We registered a murder case on the basis of compliant filed by the elder brother of the deceased," said a police officer.Deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi said that they had started an investigation. "We have sent the body for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. We are probing the case from all angles," said Bhoi. Text by Lelin Mallick, pictures by Ashwinee Pati
