Bhubaneswar, May 28: The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) in the state have outperformed the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) and private schools in this year’s CBSE Plus Two exams. The results were announced this morning.
A total of 33,848 students had appeared the exams from the Bhubaneswar region, which included 7,523 candidates from Odisha, 11,270 from Chhattisgarh and 16,194 from Bengal. Odisha secured an overall pass percentage of 83.84.
At 95.73 per cent, the pass percentage of the JNVs is better than that of the KVs and private schools which reported pass percentages of 92.28 and 80.82, respectively.
As many as 89.10 per cent students from the JNVs secured more than 60 per cent marks while only 72.17 per cent students from the KVs came under this category. Only 62.78 per cent students in private schools secured more than 60 per cent. The JNVs had also put up an impressive performance in the Class X results with over 66.68 per cent of its students securing A+ grades.
Attributing the success of the JNVs to “maximum study hours” and “congenial study environment”, regional officer of CBSE-Bhubaneswar M.V.V. Prasad Rao said: “Since these are residential schools situated in remote areas, students there have little scopes of distraction from studies. They have less contact with the outside world, the teachers stay on the same campus and can reach out to the students anytime to help them with lessons.”
“What is more important is that most of the students in the JNVs are first-generation students. Their resolve and conviction to perform well reflect in the results,” he added.
On the other hand, Rao said the reason for private schools falling behind in the race could be lack of proper monitoring by guardians. “Once the school hours are over, the students keep themselves involved in a variety of activities. The KVs too face a similar situation as most schools are located in towns and cities,” he said.
However, the results of private schools in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have been impressive with most of them registering 100 per cent results.
Like previous years, girls fared better than boys with a pass percentage of 87.28 this year too. Boys recorded a pass percentage of 81.26. “While 32.76 per cent girls scored more than 75 per cent, only 28.32 per cent boys scored that much,” said Rao.
