Police file petition for 'fraudster'

Bhubaneswar, May 24: City police today filed a petition in a local court for taking a person, who was yesterday arrested by the Balangir police for cheating people of crores of rupees, on remand.

Police sources said the accused, identified as Kumaramani Meher (39) from Jarasingh area in Balangir district, had cheated people promising them to provide jobs in different government organisations. Moreover, he had allegedly cheated people promising them to facilitate sanction of home loans and other types of loans. The accused had established an NGO, a micro-finance agency, and a training centre for job aspirants.

According to sources, Kumaramani was running a training centre in Khandagiri area, where he had cheated many youths promising them jobs. “The city police have approached the court to bring the accused on remand,” said a police officer.

On interrogation, Balangir police have found that Kumaramani had set up training centres for job aspirants at Balangir, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
