Cuttack: Police on Sunday busted a racket that used to sell fake cement and arrested one person in this connection.

The accused Lalit Kumar Jain, 45, is a resident of Laxmisagar in Bhubaneswar.

A patrolling team received information on Saturday that a cement company located at the new industrial estate at Jagatpur was producing adulterated cement.

Acting on the tip-off, a Jagatpur police team, led by sub-inspector P.K. Lenka, raided the company and found some people "inserting cement in a bag using funnels".

"It was found that Jain, the owner of D & D Nirman Udyog was procuring empty packets of Rasi Gold Cement and preparing new packets inside tje godown by using the logo of another company," deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh said.

"After filling the packets with adulterated cement by engaging labourers, he sold those at high prices," Singh said, adding that Jain had been in the trade for a long time.

"A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Trade and Merchandise Act following his arrest," said an officer.
