Bhubaneswar, April 23: Revellers are witnessing the brighter side of summers.
With theme parties of all sorts being thrown at the drop of a hat, they do not have to fly to the nearest metropolitan city to have fun and frolic on weekends. Of these bashes, pool parties, which are very much in vogue, take the cake.
Noted DJ of the city, Ravi Raj, floated his new event organising company Above and Beyond with a pool party last year.
The presence of French youngsters studying in a city-based business school and budding film stars brought the much-needed glamour making the party a smash hit. The revelry had also paved way for similar parties.
“The concept of a pool party was relatively new in the city, and I thought such an event would arouse curiosity which it rightly did,” said Ravi.
Last month, a group of youngsters called “Vangels” organised at pool party at a city-based hotel and such was the reception that the team had to organise another one earlier this month.
“The mercury is rising in the city and the sessions at the colleges are nearing an end. It is a perfect time to host pool parties where people can come and have fun,” said Vishal Mishra, a member of the team and a first-year engineering student at KIIT, Bhubaneswar.
Evergreen, another company, would host a pool party on a grand scale on April 27 at Hotel Swosti Premium.
The 13-hour party, which has been themed on Goa carnival, would bring together music, tattoo making, belly-dancing, bike stunts and photography on the same platform.
“It is my first venture, and I wanted it to be big. Therefore, I choose the theme of a pool party, which is very popular these days. Moreover, Goa is my favourite getaway destination, and I wanted to bring a bit of Goa here,” said Vikas Mohanta, a 28-year-old entrepreneur.
He said: “There are many, who are not comfortable with dancing and feel awkward at general pub gatherings. Pool parties, on the other side, is for everyone. All one has to do is make a splash.”
The regular party-hoppers are excited with the rise in the numbers of such parties. “There are many theme parties that are being thrown in the city, but the sweltering heat makes the pool side the best place to have fun,” said Sonika Pradhan, a college-goer.
