Bhubaneswar, June 19: Many state-run schools will not celebrate the International Yoga Day on June 21 as the authorities said no directions had been received from the administration to make arrangements for such an event.

Despite the Centre's direction to all states to celebrate the International Yoga Day, a school and mass education department officer said they did not receive any directive from the central government. "We have not received any instructions from the government. Therefore, we have not made any preparations," said the principal of a government school at Nayapalli.

"The state government has neither issued any instructions for the yoga day celebrations nor have we received any directive from the Centre," said director of elementary education Chudamani Seth.

The Ayush ministry will organise a mass yoga session at Janata Maidan. Also, various wings such as scouts and guides and the NCC of schools will take part in the event. Several yoga institutes and voluntary organisations have also planned to observe the day in a big way in the city.

The Saraswati Sishu Mandir under Sikhya Vikash Samiti, a group of Odia medium private schools, will observe the occasion in their respective schools.

Even last year, the state government had not issued any order for the yoga day and it was not mandatory for schools to take part in the celebrations.

"Schools can conduct the yoga sessions voluntarily. But, we should host the event as yoga in today's world has huge importance and the state government should ask the schools to observe the day," said Gayatri Kar, an educator.

With the Central Board of Secondary Education asking all its affiliated schools to observe the day in a grand way, several city schools are gearing up for the event.
