Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a 28 per cent spike in crimes against children in just a year, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau.
According to the data released on Thursday, Odisha registered 3,286 cases of crimes against children in 2016 against 2,562 in 2015. A massive 1,258 cases of child rape were registered in 2016, a hike from 1,052 in 2015.
Similarly, 1,154 cases of abduction and kidnapping of children were also registered in 2016. According to the data, sexual crimes such as rape, disrobing and outraging modesty combined constituted 60 per cent of the registered cases.
The report comes on the back of an alleged gang-rape of a minor girl by four uniformed men in Koraput in October.
