Bhubaneswar, Sept. 10: An evaluating team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (Naac) today concluded their three-day maiden visit to the Central University of Odisha in Koraput.
The Naac team consisted of four members headed by former director of the council and former vice-chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (Nehu) A.N. Rai.
Other members were professor of computer science at Anna University in Chennai V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, professor of geology at Hari Singh Gaur University in Sagar R.K. and professor of ancient history at Benaras Hindu University P.K. Srivastav. The three-day visit of the Naac team concluded with the exit meeting here today on the varsity's main campus at Sunabeda.
Rai asked the university community to work harder to take the institute to an even higher level in the country. He said the university was lucky to have a dynamic and pro-active vice-chancellor like Sachidananda Mohanty.
He also presented a copy of the confidential report to the vice-chancellor.
Mohanty also thanked the Naac team members for their visit and their valuable suggestion. He said: 'This is the first time the university has been assessed by Naac for accreditation.'
He assured that the suggestions of the Naac team would be properly implemented. He also thanked the Naac steering committee of the university for organising the visit and thanked all the students, faculties and staff of the university and also the district administration for their co-operation.
During the three-day inspection, Mohanty had presented the progress reports and achievements of the university before the Naac team.
He also shared with the evaluators the challenges that the university was facing, while putting forward the future plan of the university. The Naac team had visited all the 14 departments of the university and assessed the facilities available for students and faculties. They also visited the places of common facilities provided by the university such as the hostels, the library, the computer centres, the health centre, the canteen and the university park.
The team had also visited the tribal centre of the university at Koraput and the five adopted villages of the university at Sunabeda.
