Bhubaneswar, July 16: The durable heavy steel almirahs or the traditional wood wardrobes of lower price range are almost passé. Modern-day wardrobes are in vogue. Store anything in them, in an easy-to-access way.
Compact spaces in well-decorated interiors give a house the classic and yet stylish look. When it comes to storing clothes, shoes and accessories in small bedrooms, the mantra is the classy modular wardrobe.
The new wardrobes come with a perfect finish that makes them look like expensive wood cupboards.
The difference is that modular wardrobes give you a variety of options for storing goods. You can choose from double, triple or even four-door avatars. The aim is to easily access whatever you look for without rummaging other clothes or accessories.
Many have also the in-built hangers to keep dresses wrinkle free. Moreover, there are separate drawers or racks for shoes or accessories like ties and belts.
Modular wardrobes are made of the coloured wood, with trimmings and unusual designs. Some are even fashioned with special lamination.
“We recently shifted to this flat. We opted for a modular cabinet in keeping with the modern look of the interiors. It gives our bedroom a stylish look and helps manage the space crunch.
Unlike steel almirahs, the modular wardrobe is lighter and can easily be dismantled. So we don’t need to worry about shifting it in case we want to change the look of the room,” says Swati Pattnaik, a corporate employee.
“Modular wardrobes look very stylish. Since they are laminated, one doesn’t need to worry much about its maintenance. The one I have is termite resistant,” says Bhargabi Das, a homemaker.
Storekeepers who sell these wardrobes have different names for them.
“They are known as ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture or knock-down furniture, as you can dismantle them and then put the pieces together. They can be easily transported. They also add a fresh look to the bedroom,” says Subrat Kumar Mishra, branch manager, Style Spa.
The cabinets are mostly made of processed wood or particle board.
They come with a smooth finish and glaze in colours of teak wood, rose wood and so on. While particle board is mostly imported from Europe, the lamination foil comes from Japan. Some showrooms sell wardrobes that have been imported from Malaysia.
Available at almost all furniture stores, especially in Bapuji Nagar, modular wardrobes come in all sizes. The price range is between Rs6,000 and Rs30,000 depending on the material, number of drawers, shelves, doors, mirrors and so on.
