Berhampur, July 20: Kodala bus stand has now turned into a police camp with three platoons of force taking shelter since one week. Buses have stopped operating from the stand, which is causing a lot of problem for passengers.
“We would undertake repair work at some of the roads which were dug by irate villagers at different places during the public outrage. Only then would the buses ply,” said a senior district officer.
Ganjam collector Kishan Kumar, who was camping in Kodala since last July 13, left the place on Tuesday night. Now, Trilochan Majhi, sub-collector of Chatrapur, and Sashi Bhushan Padhi, additional district magistrate of Chatrapur, are camping there to supervise the situation.
“Today just 12 platoons of police force have been deployed in Kodala and further force would be withdrawn if the situation improves,” said a police officer. About 1,000 Congress supporters led by former finance minister Ram Krushna Patnaik and his wife, former MP Kumudini Patnaik, gheraoed Beguniapada block office on Wednesday.
They submitted a memorandum addressed to the governor through the block development officer demanding judicial enquiry into the Kodala incident by a sitting judge of Orissa High Court. They also demanded Rs 10 lakh each as ex-gratia payment for the kin of the two persons killed in police firing.
