Bhubaneswar, July 15: The fashion industry is on an upward swing and the entry of Oriya designers into the mainstream has augmented possibilities of a bright future in the fashion and textile sector. Although fashion-designing courses have been running in the state for nearly two decades, they became popular only a few years ago. According to fashion designer Pritam Panda, fashion is the buzzword across the globe today and is a growing industry. The Telegraph gives a peek into your dream course being conducted in Bhubaneswar.
Concept
The fashion industry incorporates several fields of study such as design, concept management, design production management, quality control, planning, fabric design, printing, fashion accessory design, fashion merchandising, textile science, colour mixing, and marketing.
Eligibility
The minimum eligibility for diploma courses is matriculation and for bachelor degrees, it is Plus Two.
Institutes
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhubaneswar: Master of fashion management (36 seats, two years, four semesters); minimum qualification: graduate. Bachelor in textile design (36 seats, four years, eight semesters); minimum qualification: Plus Two
Apparel Training and Designing Center (ATDC), Bhubaneswar: Diploma in fashion design and technology (20 seats, one year). Advanced diploma in fashion design and technology (20 seats, two years); minimum qualification: matriculation
National Institute of Fashion Designing (NIFD), Bhubaneswar: Degree in fashion design (20 seats, three years). Degree in textile design (20 seats, three years); minimum qualification: Plus Two
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar: Bachelor in Fashion Design (four years); minimum qualification: Plus Two
Course Fee
NIFT: Rs 52,000 per semester
ATDC: Rs 35,000 for diploma and Rs 70,000 for advanced diploma
NIFD: Rs 1,75,000 for three years
KIIT: Rs 1,50,000 per year
Scope
“India is the second largest exporter of textile after China. So, the textile and fashion market will last forever,” said Jeevesh Kumar Tripathy, a faculty member of a private fashion designing institute.
Seniors speak
“The fashion industry provides you endless opportunities since there are so many aspects,” said Jyoti Ranjan Das, a fashion technology student.
Chaitanya Hembram, another student, feels the growth of fashion in smaller cities would create plenty of jobs. “The lifestyle of people living in Bhubaneswar is on par with some of the metros. This change of trend will soon show on other small cities,” he said.
