Girls outshine boys in exams - Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College declares degree results

Sambalpur, May 31: In the results that were declared yesterday, girls have outshone boys in the toppers’ list of final degree examination of Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College.

In Arts honours subjects, 10 girl students have found place in the lists of toppers. Chhandarani Mohanty has topped in economics honours, while Sunita Naik and Dayanidhi Meher have jointly secured top position in education honours.

The toppers in other arts honours subjects were: Bikash Meher (geography), Nirupama Bhoi(Hindi), Rukmini Nial (history), Deepali Swain (Oriya), Susmita Adhikari (philosophy), Suprava Pradhan (political science), Jyotsnamayee Pati (psychology), Jharana Pradhan (Sanskrit) and Susmita Maharana (statistics).

Similarly, in Science honours subjects too, girls have excelled in the final degree examinations. Mamata Pashayat has topped in botany honours. The toppers in other science honours subjects were Sandip Bose (chemistry), Paritiswari Maharana (mathematics), Pankajini Rai (physics), Nurup Agrawal (computer science) and Maneesha Panda (zoology).

In commerce honours, Rupali Dey has topped in the final degree examination. Sitaram Panda has topped in the Bachelor of Business Administration course and Rajashree Pradhan has topped in B.Sc. (IST).

In education, geography, philosophy, Sanskrit and statistics honours, the pass rate was 100 per cent. The success rate in other honours subjects were: economics (93.54 per cent), English (91.66 per cent), history (88.8 per cent), Oriya (77.77 per cent), political science (98.36 per cent) and psychology (95.45 per cent).

Twenty-eight out of 58 students in economics honours have passed the examinations with first class.

Similarly, 22 students out of 23 in education, 11 students out of 13 in geography, five out of 10 in Hindi, three out of 16 in history, one out of two in philosophy, 16 out of 60 in political science, 19 out of 21 in psychology and eight out of 10 students in Sanskrit honours have got through the examinations with first class.

In Oriya honours, fourteen students of the department have got through the examinations with first class.

In statistics honours, two students have secured first-class.
