Activists of National Dalit Mahasangh scuffle with police personnel on their way to chief minister Naveen Patnaik's residence in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

The activists were demanding allotment of land pattas for the landless.

Around 500 agitators were marching towards Naveen's house when the cops asked them to stop near Sishu Bhavan Square.

The members of the association later sat for hours on the road paralysing traffic between Rajmahal Square and Sishu Bhavan Square. The demonstration came to an end after around three hours when a delegation of the activists met the chief secretary.

The members said they had been demanding allotment of land measuring four decimal for the landless but the state government had not done anything in this regard.

"Three years ago, the government had agreed to fulfil our demand but nothing has been done so far to provide us the land. If the government fails to address our grievances, we will intensify our protest," said Mahasangh president Ashok Mallick.

Police had been deployed to prevent any untoward incident. "We have deployed four platoons to avoid further problems," said inspector in-charge of Capital police station, Manas Ranjan Garanaik.
