Institute of Media Studies (IMS), Bhubaneswar, recently organised a seminar on the role of finance in rural sector. Former chairman of Odisha Gramya Bank Saroj Kumar Dash, who took part in the event, said farmers were not coming forward to repay their dues and the current situation was prevailing in the whole state. Chartered accountant Ramesh Chandra Giri stressed on promoting rural financial services to check the monopoly of local moneylenders who often abuse farmers and others. Among others, manager of SBI training branch Barendra Rana and director of IMS Upendra Padhi interacted with the students.
Training for doctors
A group of doctors selected from various parts of the country are being trained in the endoscopic ultrasound technology by Shyam Varadarajulu at the Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar this week. The department of gastroenterology of IMS and SUM Hospital organised the four-day workshop. “Using this technology, we can see the root cause of diseases and hence the treatment is accurate,” Varadarajulu said. He further said experts were planning to develop endoscopic scans and MRI scans as the technologAnwesha Ambalyy was accurate and specific.
UGC funds
The University Grants Commission recently released Rs 3.11 crore for Berhampur University. The university has decided to extend the commerce, botany and zoology, and the electronic science blocks with the funds. The money will also be used to purchase books and journals for the library and equipment for the science departments whose laboratories were badly affected by cyclone Phailin.
College camp
A three-day Youth Red Cross camp by district colleges was recently held at the Choudwar College in Cuttack. Chief guest Gopabandhu Mallick inaugurated the event. The meeting was presided over by college principal Jayakrushna Mohanta. Professor Jayakrushna Mohapatra, camp observer Sushil Kumar Pattnaik, district coordinator Gopal Chandra Mishra, district convenor Pradeep Kumar Das, associate district coordinator Md SK Kallimula, counsellors of various colleges and volunteers took part in the event. The guests spoke on the Youth Red Cross and social services.
Award ceremony
An award ceremony for a state-wide poster-making competition on 'Substance Abuse' was recently organised in the conference hall of National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled in Bhubaneswar. The competition was organised in June 2017 by the department of social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities. Department director Mansi Nimbhal was the chief guest. He said the competition was organised to recognise the talent of young artists..
