Experts share ideas

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology in Bhubaneswar recently organised a workshop-cum-training session on protected cultivation of anthurium and lilium. Students, experts and farmers discussed about detailed production practices, management of protected structures, input and market facilitation during the workshop.

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology in Bhubaneswar recently organised a workshop-cum-training session on protected cultivation of anthurium and lilium. Students, experts and farmers discussed about detailed production practices, management of protected structures, input and market facilitation during the workshop. Booklets on technical knowledge in Odia and English were launched at the event. Agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy also took part in the event and interacted with the participants.

Communication  

A daylong workshop on developing English communication skills was recently held at Utkal University. The workshop featured sessions on the art of conversation and group discussions. Writer Haraprasad Das addressed the youngsters and gave them tips to interact with people. A conference was held last week with the principals of the colleges under the 
university.

Brainstorming

The British Council in association with Indian Institute of Technology in Bhubaneswar recently organised a roundtable discussion titled “Higher Education, Entrepreneurship And Global Cities: Prospects of Bhubaneswar”. The discussion was held on the Satyanagar campus of the institute. Experts from higher education and government sectors took part in the discussion to explore about the role of human resource, leadership and entrepreneurship and infrastructure needed for smart projects in the city. A report recently brought out by the council highlighting the strong IT and enterprise innovation ecosystem, evolving private higher education sector and smart city mission of Bhubaneswar was discussed. A number of students took part in the brainstorming sessions.

KIIT festival

The annual festival of KIIT University that concluded recently featured workshops, robotics events, app-making events, structure challenges, business plan marathon, debates, dance, drama and quizzing events and cultural shows. A number of prominent personalities including playback singer Tulsi Kumar, actor Eli Abraham, film director and producer Hansal Mehta and TV and film actor Akhilendra Mishra took part in the three-day event. DJ Zaeden rocked the stage with his beats at the festival.

Summer placement

International Management Institute, Bhubaneswar, has declared 100 per cent summer placement for the year 2017 for its Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) batch of 2016-18. Students will get an opportunity to work with reputed companies in Bangalore, Mumbai, Siliguri, Calcutta, Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Varanasi and Anand during the internship programme. Companies recruited the students in retail, advertising, manufacturing, Banking, Financial services and Insurance (BFSI) and dairy sectors. The average stipend for the students was Rs 8,000 and the highest was Rs 41,500.

Women power

Utkal University of Culture recently organised a workshop to celebrate the International Women’s Day. During the occasion, vice-chancellor of the varsity Kamal Kanta Mishra said women played a significant role in the development of society. Reader at the Central University of Hyderabad Deepa Srinivasan talked about the torture and the harassment women faced in the society and stressed on the education of women from various strata of society for their development. Revenue divisional commissioner of central region Akhil Bihari Ota spoke about women empowerment.

On agriculture

The department of economics of the Central University of Odisha recently organised a symposium on diversified agricultural development in Odisha with special reference to Koraput region. Students discussed about the importance of agricultural development of the region for economic development of the people. Experts discussed about the price, credit and marketing policy issues of agricultural development in tribal areas of Odisha and highlighted about the ecological setting and its impact on productivity of farming in backward areas of Koraput region.
